20 April 2026
It was a dramatic week in Parliament.
On Monday, the government announced a plan to cut the excise tax on gas. But Canadians can see this for what it is — a watered-down version of the Conservative plan. They copied the idea, but delivered only a fraction: 1/3 of the relief, for 1/3 of the time.
Conservatives proposed a real solution:
Cut the excise tax, remove federal taxes on gas and diesel, and suspend the GST for the rest of the year — saving families up to $1,200 annually.
Unfortunately, that motion was defeated.
⸻
On Tuesday, I attended a Holocaust memorial event in the rain — a solemn moment that seemed to reflect the pain and suffering endured by those who were persecuted.
We must never forget.
⸻
During Question Period, I rose on three days this week to press the government on its abandonment of private property rights in the Cowichan land claim case.
Canadians deserve clarity and certainty. Instead, the Liberal government remains evasive.
We will not let them off the hook.
⸻
I also spoke in debate on Bill C-22, raising concerns about lawful access provisions and the balance between public safety and civil liberties.
⸻
On Wednesday, Bill C-231, a Conservative Private Member’s Bill, passed second reading.
This bill would require young offenders charged with drug-related crimes to participate in treatment — focusing on recovery, not just punishment.
⸻
The contrast is clear:
Conservatives are fighting for affordability, public safety, and fundamental rights — while this government continues to fall short.
