Parliamentary Weekly Update:
Bill C-4 – Affordability Act
I spoke on Bill C-4 and highlighted that while the government offers a 1% tax cut—about the price of a daily coffee—it leaves Canadians with massive generational debt. It’s a smokescreen, not real affordability relief.
Bill C-225 – Intimate Partner Violence
The House unanimously passed Bill C-225, introduced by Conservative MP Frank Caputo. This important legislation strengthens Canada’s response to intimate partner violence and shows that Conservatives can deliver results in Opposition.
Bill C-9 – Religious Freedom Concerns
Serious concerns were raised after the Liberals supported an amendment removing a long-standing hate-crime defence related to religious expression. Following pushback from Conservatives and the public, the government canceled the Justice Committee meeting.
Fire Chiefs & Diplomacy
I met with Fire Chiefs from across Canada to hear their concerns on emergency response and firefighter mental health.
I also met with the Ambassador of Japan and the Ambassador of Azerbaijan, discussing community connections and economic opportunities.
Town Hall on TCM Student Loans
On December 6, I hosted a town hall with Shadow Minister Garnett Genuis and MP Michael Ma. We heard from media and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) institutions about the federal budget’s decision to deprive students at private TCM colleges of access to federal student loans. We will keep pressing the government to reverse this harmful policy.
Meeting with Trinity Western University
Shadow Minister Genuis and I also met with Trinity Western University’s administration to discuss federal policies affecting their students and programs.
Looking Ahead
Next week is the final sitting week before the winter break. It will be a long and intense week as the government tries to push through legislation. I will continue bringing Richmond Centre–Marpole’s voice to Ottawa.
