Parliamentary Weekly Update:
No Government Bills Advanced This Week
No government legislation moved to a vote this week. Debate continued on the Budget Implementation Bill, but the bill has not yet advanced to the next stage.
Bill C-12 Moves Forward at Committee
At the Public Safety and National Security Committee, Bill C-12 was debated clause-by-clause and passed with several Conservative amendments adopted.
The committee has now entered the report-writing stage before sending the bill back to the House of Commons.
Cowichan Land Ruling: Continued Conservative Pressure
I again raised the Cowichan land ruling during Question Period, highlighting the growing anxiety among Richmond homeowners and businesses.
Richmond’s letter to the Attorney General on October 23 remains unanswered.
On October 24, Richmond City Council passed a motion urging the federal Liberal government to take immediate action to mitigate the impacts on affected residents and businesses.
Two other Conservative MPs also questioned the government on this issue:
• Shadow Minister Jamie Schmale, and
• MP Jeff Kibble, Member of Parliament for Cowichan–Malahat–Langford.
Conservatives will continue to apply strong pressure until the government provides accountability and support.
Calling for an End to Hard-Drug Decriminalization
I rose in the House to urge the federal government to terminate B.C.’s failed hard-drug decriminalization pilot, which was approved by the Liberals and continues to pose serious public safety concerns in our communities.
Engagements on Parliament Hill
This week, I met with:
• A delegation from the Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce of North America, discussing economic cooperation and investment; and
• Delegations from Uzbekistan, exploring opportunities to strengthen Canada–Central Asia relations.
