Happy to be back on Parliament Hill and ready to keep fighting for the people of Richmond Centre–Marpole. Affordability continues to be the No. 1 concern for Canadians, and there is much work to be done.

This week, I joined the House of Commons Standing Committee on International Trade. This new role complements my work as Chair of the Conservative Pacific Gateway Economic Engagement Caucus, as we work to expand Canada’s trade and economic opportunities, particularly in the Asia-Pacific.

On Thursday, I was also pleased to welcome Vietnamese President Tô Lâm to Parliament Hill. Vietnam is an important partner for Canada in the Asia-Pacific, and strengthening our relationship can create new opportunities for trade, investment and greater economic cooperation.

In the House, I rose to speak on Bill C-39 and asked what happened to Bill C-5, which Parliament passed a year ago. Before adding another layer of legislation and bureaucracy, we should ask whether the real problem is implementation.

During Question Period, I raised the dramatic increase in shoplifting in Richmond and asked what the government is doing about repeat offenders who continue to victimize local businesses and their employees.

At the same time, Bill C-266 passed second reading with Conservative support. It shows that Conservatives are willing to work across party lines and support legislation when it is good for Canada.

It was also a pleasure to welcome two Richmond residents visiting Ottawa. It is always special to see familiar faces from home on Parliament Hill.

I normally fly home Friday evening, but this week I stayed for the opening of the Mid-Autumn Night Market in Ottawa’s Chinatown. What a pleasant surprise to see so many people from different cultures coming together to enjoy the performances, food and community spirit.

On a day traditionally about family and togetherness, it was especially meaningful to see Chinese Canadian culture being shared as part of our Canadian story. Congratulations to the organizers on a wonderful celebration!

From affordability and public safety to trade, economic opportunities and bringing Canadians together, it was a busy week on Parliament Hill. I’m ready for the work ahead—and will keep bringing Richmond’s voice to Ottawa and working for a stronger Canada.
